Hello,

It would be really great if everyone here could just post one or a few pictures showing the current state of their house.

I'll start right away.

For renovations, it’s best to provide a comparison of before and after the remodeling.

Before March 2014:

After May 2015:

As far as I know, there is no general standard specification for the broom finish.
We had the plasterer provide us with three sample boards and then chose the medium option.
The lightest finish would hardly have been visible, and the heaviest one might have caused issues with moss growth on the facade since water wouldn’t drain properly.

Do you know how much extra the broom finish would have cost you? For us, it adds almost 4,000 EUR (about $4,400). We are considering switching to the classic white fine render instead and informing the general contractor soon.

I just checked, it was a bit over 2,300 gross for the broom finish and two coats of paint as additional facade protection.

However, in this context, we also had the mesh plastering done on the entire house; previously, only two sides (the more weather-exposed ones) were covered.
In my opinion, it is advisable to do this when applying a broom finish.

Update: They have been installed for a few months now, but work on the roof cladding could only begin recently… it’s not completely finished yet.

The plasterer was here... one man, one day. For the first coat, I think it turned out really well (Q2 ordered).

Bright skylight with a view of green fields; unfinished interior wall with plastering and cables.

Unfinished attic with sloped drywall, small skylight, and bucket on the floor.

Attic construction scene: plastered walls, dormer, ladder, hole in the floor, bucket.

Not my own house, but from close family:

A single-story wooden house with a red tiled roof, chimney, surrounded by garden, hedges, and trees.

You can tell from the plant growth that the renovation took place a few years ago (mid-90s). But how did it look before, or what do you think was the original structure?
