Hello,

It would be really great if everyone here could just post one or a few pictures showing the current state of their house.

I'll start right away.

For renovations, it’s best to provide a comparison of before and after the remodeling.

After May 2015:

Well, since the house is more or less already built... discussing the floor plan doesn't help much anymore; besides, our house is quite unconventional and very much tailored to our needs.

It didn’t please everyone – that was clear, some considerations may have helped others a bit.

I agree, even unconventional examples can be "helpful." For example, the house by @matte1987 is very well received – I personally find the TV placement phenomenal – but it definitely wouldn’t be suitable for exact copying, simply because his plot is quite unusual. Also, @ivenh0 and @sichtbeton82 enjoy warm support here, as do @rick2018 and @hampshire – all forum members whose plots would not have suited a Flair 113. The “benefit” of presenting a house is therefore by no means only about the highest possible compatibility with others’ situations – you don’t have to be able to “install” every idea in your own home.

If you’re not asking for floor plan advice – you don’t get a major discussion – at least that’s my experience after I shared the floor plan of our house, encouraged by @11ant.

Here, however, I have to disagree or at least qualify: not asking can still attract criticism. At that point, measures like showing your plans only partially or not at all, or having a unique situation that prevents direct comparisons, can help. Examples include several of those mentioned above – notably @hampshire, largely because of his unusually sized plot – or @Muc1985 with his multi-family house with an underground garage, who has done a great job presenting and even discussing it without becoming a target for criticism.

This worked because you put a lot of effort into explaining your decisions clearly and in detail. In other words, it was obvious that you had considered the usual pros and cons and made YOUR own decision.

Not everyone liked it, of course, but some ideas might have helped others in some way—even if just by inspiring them to create their own. I would love to get a sneak peek at the floor plan of your house.

I really like your house.

Is it possible that you could separate it later and rent it out?

@tumaa Thanks, yes, there are different options planned to make it two separate units...

I dug through my archive and found an initial version of the floor plan so you can get an idea of the interior layout. We have made several changes since then; the bathroom layout has been redesigned but the locations remain the same (I’ve since learned that bathrooms without windows are generally uncommon; we mostly placed ours into the slope so the other rooms can enjoy the view). We have swapped the kitchen and dining areas, and the storage room on the children’s floor no longer exists; it has been converted into a shared workspace for everyone.

Floor plan attic: bedroom with bath, dressing room, terraces, corridor and open space.

Floor plan upper floor with garage, kitchen/dining, living, storage rooms, stairs

Floor plan ground floor of a house with rooms (guest, child), bathroom/WC, hallway, terrace.

Floor plan basement: cellar rooms, climbing wall, kitchenette/lounge, wellness/gym, sauna

Wow, that is a huge area... I'm really impressed, that is truly a large building structure.

I actually meant the house of @hampshire... but I also think yours is cool!
