Hello,

It would be really great if everyone here could just post one or a few pictures showing the current state of their house.

I'll start right away.

For renovations, it’s best to provide a comparison of before and after the remodeling.

Kitchen almost finished

Ours is here too.

Nice style. Did you choose the kitchens together?
With @Alessandro you can clearly see that the countertop space is already insufficient.
Alessandro schrieb:

Which countertop would you have preferred for a Berbel Skyline?
Like MadameP’s, for example, would be my answer. A thin countertop instead of the bulky thick one.

Well then, I want to join in too.
We have kitchen cabinets and an induction cooktop/gas hob from Ikea. The countertop was custom made by the carpenter and the extractor hood... well, where is it? Oops, we don’t have one.
Has been working perfectly for over 3 years in the house and 5 years in the rental before that.
Do you have an open or closed kitchen? Experience shows that cooking grease settles on surfaces, which isn’t a major issue inside the kitchen but can be annoying in the living area if you have books or similar items there.

For me, this is a really interesting thread. Either the cooktop is installed in a niche with limited countertop space on the sides or on an island, where splattering during steak preparation happens—but there the guests who are always watching can share the experience. Both options seem to be trending.
Yes, I also find that rather unfortunate.
The advantage of an island is that you cook facing your guests, stirring, communicating. The guest sits opposite and gets a view into the pot.
That is completely lost in MadameP’s kitchen. The cook turns away from the guests, there is no sideways interaction, the social island has now turned into a cleaning island. I understand why this concept is popular but don’t share that opinion.
Still, I find the cooking area too dark and cramped. It feels like an upper cabinet threatens the busy cooking space above the stove.
You have to move around the corner of the island from the prep area to the cooktop, which isn’t ideal either.
I’m curious how you will solve this, @MadameP

Please report back with photos in the kitchen thread.

Here is the finished guest toilet with the rust-effect tiles (black flush button will be replaced with stainless steel)

Phew—this is too dark for me. Feels a bit like a spooky cellar.

Exactly THAT, even the “phew” is what I thought.
But I believe the guest toilet is a good place to be a little bold and it can be somewhat more exotic. But tiles are a permanent choice.

I could also imagine black fittings, but I generally like those anyway.

But they tend to look worn quickly because of limescale.

The railing was just installed. I got to design the struts myself.

Great! 3> Am I mistaken or do you have a fondness for the 1950s?
Alessandro schrieb:

The only disadvantage, which is why we decided against it, is that glass always reflects and is very, very high maintenance.
Dust in the struts won’t be the easiest to clean either :P

The black railing looks really stylish. I don’t want to clean it, but it looks great!

We also have glass, but if we had children, I would have thought twice about it (and probably decided against it):

It either looks completely awful or really cool.

I also think the tiles are super cool – but I’m not sure if I would tile a wall like that in the living area.
Tiles in the stairwell to me have a kind of rental apartment entrance vibe. And would that beautiful railing still stand out properly?

Anyway, I’m curious to see how it turns out (personally, I would have left the wall white and probably hung a large, modern painting).

We liked glass as well, but since I’m not too keen on cleaning, we decided to go with wood:

Are you already at this stage, or is this a sample photo?

@Solveigh The photo shows a part of our house... At the moment, progress is slower than planned because not everything has been delivered or installed yet, but I’m happy with every step forward.

Today, the floors in the children’s rooms were poured (liquid cork) and the fireplace has already arrived:

Empty renovation room with large window, green floor, and construction plastic on the window.

Empty white-painted room with large windows, shiny floor, outdoor construction site visible.

Empty renovation room with dark blue, glossy floor; window covered with plastic sheeting and caution tape.

Unfinished interior with concrete fireplace structure and firebox behind glass.
