Hello everyone,

Next week is the big day for us, and we will receive the handover of our house. The interior work is completely finished. Now my question is how I should prepare for this and what I need to pay attention to. I couldn’t really find a thread about this.

Does anyone have tips or even experience? It’s a prefabricated house from a well-known manufacturer.

Thanks and best regards

Hello Zenjamino,
In general, it is always recommended to have a building surveyor regularly accompany the construction process and carry out building inspections during the various construction phases. Therefore, be sure to hire an independent building expert for the house inspection.

Once the interior finishing is completely done, any poor workmanship won’t be visible anymore.
The main focus then is mostly on the appearance—making sure everything that’s supposed to be there is in place and that everything works as it should.
Check that all electrical systems function properly, and that all windows and doors are correctly adjusted, etc.
That’s what I would focus on.

Hi,

we don’t have a building inspector. Call it naive, but my friend who is an architect and I have often gone through the house and then talked with the construction company. From my point of view, it worked out well.

But we don’t need to discuss that topic, I would just like to know what you should pay attention to in a completely finished house. Are the windows sealed properly or things like that?

Regards

A few days in advance, we went through everything and noted down every scratch, dent, and stain.

Check glass panes for scratches.
Test electrical outlets to ensure they work.
Look for scratches on doors and thresholds.
Inspect tiles for cracks and grout issues.
Check the exterior facade for stains.
Test windows for smooth operation; I believe the person who adjusted them even used a thin object to see if they fit properly.
Tap on tiles to check if they sound hollow.

The problem is that dirt often hides many issues and usually only becomes visible after a thorough deep cleaning.

Many problems only appear after moving in, but these are often just minor issues.
