Hello, we have a house from the 1950s. The plot is very nice, so moving is not an option for us. According to the architect and builder, the structure of the house is still sound. What bothers us about the house is the layout of the rooms. Furthermore, it could be a bit larger, and we actually need space for my mother as a second residence. If necessary, a room with a bathroom for her would also be sufficient. According to the architect, the renovation to bring the house up to current energy standards would cost around 130,000 EUR. The basement needs to be dried out (we currently have a problem with a high groundwater level), but even after renovation, it would not be suitable as a living space. Has anyone had experience with such a house? Would a demolition and subsequent new build possibly be a better option? (We have already considered this as well). I would be very grateful for any suggestions.
