Hello everyone,

The initial work has now started on our plot, and there have been discussions about the elevations and the entrance.

Basically, there are two options for the entrance design: level with the ground or with step(s).

We have agreed that we want one step in front of the front door. Our general contractor suggested that we can use the 16 cm (6.3 inch) screed as the step into the house, so no additional steps or a porch are needed outside. However, I can’t imagine how that would look from the outside. Wouldn’t the front door then be kind of “hanging in the air”?!

On the side where the front door is located, a carport will be built later, which will also serve as a canopy, and there will be a passage to the garden. The contractor’s concern was that if a concrete step is poured in front of the door and a car is parked there, it won’t be easy to get a wheelbarrow or similar through to the garden.

That all makes sense, but what does it look like if there is no concrete step there? When I search on Google, I only find entrances either level with the ground or with traditional steps in front of the door.

Does anyone have a similar setup and could share a photo online?

Best regards,
S.

I can’t imagine that… People would basically be thrown out the front door…

As I understand it, it should look like in the picture, but without the step in front.

I can clearly picture it, but I consider it unthinkable that something like this would be built or recommended...

I found some options that only have a minimal threshold at the door. But I couldn't find any without one at all – I probably misunderstood that part.

What are your thoughts on a level-entry entrance?

Modern white single-family house with a dark paved driveway; a garage is on the right.

That won’t work the way you imagine. The general contractor must have meant something different as well; otherwise, it would be simply dangerous and complete nonsense.
