Hello everyone,
I am relatively new to the topic of house building and design.
My current question is: what are the advantages and disadvantages of having a hallway at the main entrance versus not having one?
Specifically, the current ground floor plan includes a large open-plan kitchen and living area, a staircase leading upstairs, and a guest bathroom.
What are the pros and cons of having a hallway right behind the main entrance?
That is, do you enter a small hallway first when coming into the house, or do you walk directly into the large open-plan kitchen and living area?
Thank you very much for your help in advance.
Best regards,

I once had a similar open layout in an apartment. The entrance hallway or vestibule alone has a psychological effect in many ways. Pragmatically, it helps with noise, cold/wind, and dirt. Additionally, I would definitely separate the kitchen-living area from the stairwell with at least a door. Two doors between rooms are far better for sound insulation than just one. If desired, the door could be designed as a sliding door or a glass door to keep a more open feel or left open most of the time. Given the size of the entrance hallway, I wouldn’t skimp on space there. One square meter (10.8 square feet) makes a much bigger difference in the hallway than it does in the living room.

Is your front door also located in the hallway, or do you have a vestibule or entrance area in between?
