Hello

We are now starting our house construction. We plan to complete the shell of the building ourselves, as well as many other small tasks. Friends and family, who are very experienced, will help us.

How exactly should I proceed? I have read that I need to register all helpers with the construction industry’s statutory accident insurance and pay €2 per hour worked by each helper.

Do I have to provide the names of all helpers in advance? Since more people will probably join during the construction phase. Or do I only need to notify when construction starts, keep a site log with all names and hours, and submit it after completing the house?

I have some acquaintances/friends who are not family but want to help for free. How can I protect myself or prove that they are not working undeclared and are helping voluntarily?

Is there anything else I need to consider?

It is also important that you inform yourselves about what the insurance covers and how. The keyword here is warranty.

If your grandfather installs the electrical connection because he might have learned it once, but later this causes a short circuit and the house burns down.

I’m not sure if something like this can be insured, but I would consider it and inquire. Or who pays if a helper gets injured. To my knowledge, there are insurances for that.

Just some tips.
