Hello like-minded people,

We plan to start our building project by the end of this year, or at the latest in spring 2017.
It will be a rectangular house in the Franconian style, meaning a gable roof.

Now I have a few questions:

- I want to do without a mechanical ventilation system with heat recovery; can I also skip the KfW 55 standard, or will that catch up with me in 10 or 20 years?
- I would like to build with Poroton bricks. What experiences do you have with insulated versus non-insulated bricks?

Definitely not. The difference between, for example, KfW 55 and KfW 70 is so small that it will only have a minor effect on heating costs—roughly 10-15 Euros per month. You probably won’t recover the additional investment even in 50 years.
Besides, loans from the KfW bank are no longer as attractive compared to other banks as they were a few years ago. Overall, you shouldn’t regret it, and you might even be better off without KfW 55.
