Good morning home builders.
A question: Who is building with a gas heating system according to the new building regulations?
I ask because I have to install the most expensive windows to achieve an overall U-value of 0.7 (due to the new regulations).

How is it for you?

Ok, I fully support that, of course. 😉

U-value 0.7 is _not_ the most expensive window option and therefore _not_ the best!

If you build strictly according to the energy saving regulations, you will also need to add extra insulation, such as the 15% rule formerly known as KfW 70, along with a mechanical ventilation system with heat recovery. In total, this will become so costly that you could switch to an air-to-water heat pump without any additional expenses... unless you want to build on thin ice. In my opinion, I would not want to do without a mechanical ventilation system with heat recovery anyway 😉

Why would he have them then? That doesn’t make sense.

So that he can take advantage of the KfW-55 loan.

I would like to see the calculation. A geothermal heat pump with a subsidy of €4,000 (about $4,400) is more expensive than an air-to-water heat pump plus a gas condensing boiler plus the connection. You also need a larger utility room for that.

With a basement, space is less of an issue. If the drilling alone apparently costs around €20,000 (about $22,000), I do think it’s worth it.

@all
I never said that the air-to-water heat pump wouldn’t be installed properly. He just said he doesn’t want to operate it because his philosophy is against it. It’s no different than installing a wood stove and never lighting it. Honestly, I don’t see the problem.
