Hello everyone, I have been using a Genvex/Vanvex 290l Optima domestic hot water heat pump since 2013.
Since I thought these units were maintenance-free, I only replaced the sacrificial anode in 2024, after 11 years of operation.
Now, I have read online that every few years you should open it up and vacuum out the lime scale and sludge from the bottom with a wet vacuum.
A heating and plumbing specialist told me that if the unit has not been maintained for 12 years, it is better to drain it because there is a risk it may no longer seal properly.
Also, I noticed that domestic hot water heat pumps are already available for under 2000€ (approximately $2200), so paying 500€ (approximately $550) for maintenance after 12 years might not be economical.
Is there an expert here who can confirm this? Is it better to just leave it until the unit breaks down?
Thanks everyone
