Good evening,
we are currently planning our house, and I am trying to gather as much information as possible. At the moment, I am focusing on the topic of security systems. We are planning without a smart home setup, so no window or door contacts are included. Our general contractor installs RC2N standard security on the ground floor. Now we are considering expanding this with video surveillance around the entire property. What are your experiences? Has anyone done something similar? Or would you recommend going for a traditional alarm system?
Thank you all in advance!

In fact, a standard pane (in RC2N) already makes quite a bit of noise when broken, so I can easily believe it when someone tells me that in nine out of ten cases the glass remains intact. Since that is the only significant reinforcement at the higher protection levels, it really makes you think about how practical it is for an average private home. Our window installer, who obviously wants to make some profit, also told us this, which is why we will only be getting the forced-entry protection.

Hausbauer20214 Jun 2021 20:29Thank you all. In summary, I would proceed as follows:
1. Change from RC2N to RC2
2. Plan the house lighting properly to avoid any dark spots
3. Even though this topic was somewhat controversial, I would still include video surveillance.
The only question is how to make it uncomfortable for a potential burglar? A dog is not an option due to an allergy.

As often discussed, it is about making intrusion more difficult, but the individual situation, perception, AND necessity must always be clarified. Unfortunately, even police advisory services sometimes provide generic advice.
You can discuss this topic endlessly, but the best approach is to do what feels right for you. In general, however, I notice increasing fear without a corresponding rise in actual incidents.
I would prefer not to be guided by such fear.

A dog is ruled out because of allergies. Elephant, Bengal tiger, or black mamba...

As discussed many times, it’s about making it more difficult, but the truly individual situation, feelings, and necessity need to be clarified. Unfortunately, even police advisory services often give broad, general advice.

Elephant, tiger king or black mamba....... It’s not about fear but about sensible planning in advance. I have seen how friends felt after a burglary. You can try to take this issue lightly, but I will try to do everything possible to prevent anyone from rummaging through my personal belongings 🙂
