Hello,

for our planned new build, I would like to automate as much as my budget allows. A central control system (touchscreen/app) for blinds, underfloor heating, and possibly indoor/outdoor lighting. Since I’m not familiar with this topic, I have two basic questions:

1). What approximate costs should I expect if about 170sqm (1,830 sqft) of living space including bathroom, toilet, hallway, 4 living rooms, and garage are to be automated? Of course, I understand you can’t give me an exact estimate.

2). How should I best approach my planning? Since I assume my budget won’t cover everything at once, I want to at least make all necessary preparations during construction. That way, I can add features later without having to open up walls. Sort of like preparing the roof for solar panels in advance…

Looking forward to your answers

Well, but you basically have a purely wireless solution... with Homematic devices, which have been classified as insecure multiple times...

Wireless solutions are actually intended for retrofitting existing buildings and not for new constructions... so I wouldn’t rely on them if I were still basically starting from a blank slate...

Hello. We have received a quote from our electrician for a KNX system. Very expensive! Is there an alternative? We are looking for an intelligent blind control system, managing wind, room temperature, sunlight exposure, and absence settings. Or are we missing something important?

How much does "very expensive" mean, if I may ask? I'm also curious about the whole KNX system right now. Alternatives are, for example, Loxone or Busch & Jaeger.

I am also looking into home automation for new builds.
My current favorite is LCN.
Does anyone have experience with it? I want to control indoor temperature, blinds (time- and sun-controlled), window contacts, lighting control, and socket/outlet control.

.. YES .. the software and installation against hacker attacks, nowadays burglars can open the front door via smartphone without leaving fingerprints, enter, lower the shutters, and calmly rob the house

Just the bus cable alone won’t be enough. You need to run each load separately to the distribution board. Sockets can be wired with a 5-core or preferably 7-core cable, allowing you to decide later which ones should be switchable or not.

That’s not true at all. If you want to retrofit a socket to be switchable later, a flush-mounted actuator will do. Of course, the channel cost is higher than with a 16-channel rail-mounted device, but it’s fine for retrofitting.
