Hello everyone,

We have newly installed two-layer parquet flooring that has hollow spots. Is this considered a defect?

Thanks for your input..!

hello,

I found the following article on isp:

Assessment Criteria for Installed Parquet Flooring

Based on DIN standards and SIA 253 / 753, ISP has established the following assessment criteria:

1. The visual inspection should be conducted standing on the parquet surface to be evaluated.

2. Local lighting conditions (e.g., floor-to-ceiling windows or only skylights) must be taken into account during the visual assessment.

3. Extreme light sources (e.g., a lamp placed specifically on the floor for inspection purposes) must not be considered in the visual evaluation.

4. The characteristics of different wood species and grain cuts, as well as the types of surface treatments, should be considered collectively.

5. The finished, surface-treated parquet must not show any disturbing sanding marks.

6. Sealed surfaces must have a uniform gloss level.

7. Minor surface treatment impurities caused by processing are acceptable.

8. Manual work performed with powered tools on site (e.g., edge sanding) must be evaluated from a technical perspective.

9. Isolated hollow spots in fully glued parquet floors are permissible:
- Up to a maximum of 1/3 of the parquet element length in the largest diameter of the hollow spot if a tongue-and-groove connection exists, or
- A maximum of 10–20% of the surface area of the individual parquet element with butt joints.
- Detached areas must not be movable in height.
- No re-adhesion effect from the parquet adhesive should occur when stepping on or releasing pressure.
- The local position and frequency of hollow spots must also be considered.

10. Overlaps/height differences in engineered parquet must not exceed 0.2 mm (0.008 inches) between individual elements.
