Hello dear homebuilding community,
For some time now, I have been thinking about building a small holiday home for myself and my family in the not-too-distant future. The budget is modest, but so are the expectations. After doing some research on how to implement such a project cost-effectively, I came across container-like modular houses, for example from the company Conhouse. I thought the idea was great, and what the brochures showed was also very appealing. However, I don’t want to focus on that here. My post is more about the building location.
I have been closely connected to the Baltic Sea region for 30 years. I would like to place my house there. Even if you can get an affordable plot, there are countless authorities and offices in Germany, each wanting their share. The idea of a houseboat has almost been discarded because even then it is hardly possible to get a berth at the desired location. I find it somewhat ridiculous to have more fuss around a small container house than around the house itself.
My latest thought is to perhaps place the house in Sweden or Denmark. Both are quickly and easily accessible from our home in Hamburg. Scandinavians are quite relaxed when it comes to pitching tents in the wilderness 😉 I have read that many laws and regulations are handled locally and that things like inspections have even been completely shifted to the builder.
Has anyone already had experience building a house in Scandinavia and can provide some tips or advice? Recommendations for further reading or resources would also be welcome. Or am I completely off track with my idea?
Best regards,
knucKles
