I hope this is the right subforum, as this is only indirectly a "kitchen question": I want to build a shelf in my home office, for which I want to use the shelves from the Metod/Utrusta series for various reasons (among other things, I was gifted several shelves that are 80cm (31.5 inches) wide). For the side panels, I will use white furniture-grade chipboard from the hardware store.
I have already ordered a drilling template for the System 32, where the holes for the shelf supports are apparently 37mm (1.46 inches) from the front edge. It seems that this is different for Utrusta shelves. What is the best approach here? Can you simply clamp a strip (and if so, how thick?) between the board and the template to achieve the correct hole distance from the front edge? This distance appears to be 12.5mm (0.49 inches) to the edge of the hole or 18mm (0.71 inches) to the center of the hole, measured on a Utrusta shelf, correct (I don’t have a Metod cabinet)?
I would appreciate any tips from experienced DIY builders or “Ikea hacks” with Metod parts!
Regards,
liesepetz

IKEA-Experte30 Jul 2015 23:06Hello,
for METOD, the distances of the front two rows of holes are 20 mm (0.8 inches) and 52 mm (2 inches) from the cabinet edge. If you also want to install Maximera or Förvara drawers or doors from METOD, the vertical spacing of the holes is also important: 50 mm (2 inches).
The System 32 has largely been discontinued for METOD.

liesepetz9 Aug 2015 16:59Thanks for the measurements. I don’t want to install any drawers, just an open shelf for folders and boxes in the study. From what it looks like, I will probably only be able to use the front row of holes with the drilling template. I hope that using a 17mm (about 0.67 inches) strip as a spacer will work.
