Hello!

You often hear people talking about historical building materials. Do you have any idea what that means? Is it really about materials that were once used in ancient buildings?

Best regards,
sennor 😕

Hi sennor!

When demolition work is carried out, historic building materials are often recovered. These can include bricks or flooring, but also doors, fireplaces, or garden ornaments. However, it is better to verify how antique the building elements really are, as many items are labeled antique even though they might only be around 50 years old...

Hi!

I see... the materials don’t have to be that old to be called "antique." Or is it all just a scam? The question is also how you can verify that. 😕

Best regards,
sennor 🙂

Hi!

To find something like this out, you can consult an expert. They will schedule an appointment and inspect the property thoroughly. Afterwards, they can usually tell you how old things are.

Hello sennor,

An expert can tell you how old the parts really are. But most of the time, these are very old floors or old wooden beams, etc. I myself never really knew what they meant by antique. I always imagined that the parts would have to be extremely old, but that is not entirely the case.

Hello!

Is it really enough to just look at building materials to determine the age? What criteria are actually relevant for estimating the age? I’m genuinely interested in that.
