Hello everyone,

We would like to separate the space under the staircase with a door or an opening. Since the area will be used for storage and won’t be accessed very often, the "door" does not need to be easy or quick to open. It is more important that the door remains unnoticed.

Do you have any ideas on how to achieve this? My current idea is to install a drywall partition, but instead of screwing it in firmly, I would attach it to the studs using magnets. I would leave a small hole in one corner so the panel can be released with a finger.

Bench under the staircase with compartments, shoes, toys; on the left a large plant.

The railing on the right is a steel structure covered with drywall.

One idea could be a curtain... Maybe you already have some on the windows, then I would use the same fabric. Or something very light, like the staircase. Decorative folds can be created with curtain tiebacks, so it doesn’t look sloppy.

You can choose a simple 'wallpaper door'; for example, it can be hung with piano hinges (low-cost option), with concealed door fittings, or with furniture fittings (e.g., kitchen cabinets). You then select either a push-to-open mechanism or a discreet pull handle.

Or a shelf that can be moved on rails... (if there is space beside it)

I can think of a nice blind as well, that’s how we’ve just hidden the washing machine.

Thank you for all the ideas. We hadn't considered some of them at all and can now see how to resolve it. The goal was actually to make the wall as unobtrusive as possible.
