Hello everyone,

we are currently planning our entrance area or hallway, and I would really appreciate your assessments and ideas.

The floor plan shows the hallway with the adjacent rooms. My main issue is that, due to the many doors and the staircase, there is relatively little free wall space. I find this a bit unfortunate because I would like to make the entrance area feel more inviting and at least add some decoration.

It is especially important for me to place a narrow console table with a mirror above somewhere. However, I am unsure on which wall this would make the most sense or where there would be enough space without making the hallway too narrow or impractical.

Since our front door is very large, there is currently only about 70 cm (28 inches) of wall space between the door frame of the front door and the office door (blue arrow), and I have doubts whether anything will fit there.

Additionally, I am wondering if you have any suggestions about the door swing directions. At the moment, most doors open outward towards the hallway. If possible, I would prefer some doors (office, cloakroom) to open inward, so the hallway feels calmer and less “door-heavy.” Do you have experience with this, or would you definitely leave certain doors as they are?

One specific consideration concerns the office door: we are thinking about positioning it slightly lower on the wall. Instead of about 40 cm (16 inches) from the upper wall, it would be closer to 60 cm (24 inches), so the door would be more centered on the wall. This might give us enough space between the cloakroom door and the office door for a console with a mirror (green arrow). At the same time, I am unsure whether this would make the office layout more difficult.

Therefore, I would also appreciate ideas for furnishing the office. The room is planned as a small single office, 3.00 m x 3.07 m (9 ft 10 in x 10 ft 1 in). I have also uploaded one possible layout but I am open to better suggestions—especially regarding whether a shifted door would be helpful or more of a hindrance.

The other images serve more as style and mood references for the entrance area: warm wood, light walls, cozy, rather simple and modern. Of course, our floor plan is slightly different from the AI-generated one, but we want to aim roughly in this direction.

My questions summarized:
Where would you place a narrow console with a mirror in the hallway?
Would you move the office door to gain more usable wall space in the hallway?
Which door swing directions would you change, and which would you leave as they are?
Do you have suggestions for furnishing the small office?
Do you have any other ideas on how to create a nice entrance area despite limited free wall space?

Is this a purchased existing house? Why have the doors open into the hallway? That makes it very busy and not as calm as you wish.

No, we are currently in the planning phase of our new build 🙂

I'm not against the doors; I'm just asking whether there might be better solutions than the current ones.

Planning the doors into the rooms is already a good start. Choosing a hallway from which everything branches off, however, has its disadvantages.

You have already received many answers here. Poor planning is the root of all problems.
