ᐅ Help, does this wallpapering look professional?

Hello,

we had our walls wallpapered by a painting company because we did not feel confident doing it ourselves. However, we are not satisfied with the final result at all; we probably could have done it just as well on our own. We did not choose the cheapest option, nor the most expensive—the quote was 5.95 euros per m² (5.95 euros per 10.8 square feet), which was mid-range.

Already painted by us:

Not painted yet:

Light stone floor with gray-white marble look and central joint.

Rough wall surface with vertical joint and shadow

Additional defects:

Plaster damage around door frame on interior wall, damaged plaster

Close-up of a white wall with texture and joint seam

On one occasion, too much wallpaper was cut off at the bottom, so there was a gap above the skirting board. They simply glued more wallpaper on afterwards.

Would you accept this? Is this professional workmanship?

I would be very grateful for your feedback!

Yes. That’s no problem – I’m not a professional painter, but I have wallpapered plenty of walls in my life.

Ok

I’m not sure why it was painted over? Were the seams supposed to be covered up with paint?

So far, I have only started painting the first wall; the painter was supposed to just do the wallpapering. Maybe he thinks that if one of his guys paints it tomorrow, it will look better. If you paint over it four times, probably... our paint isn’t exactly cheap either. I have no idea if those seams can be concealed that way.

Good luck, Katrin

Edit: I made your post a bit clearer

Hello,

the painter was here today and painted one wall himself. While he was painting, when everything was still wet, he said, "See, nothing is visible." He said I used too little paint and/or the paint is cheap and new textured wallpaper needs to be painted twice anyway. Now that it’s dry, the seams are visible again. On the other wall that had already been painted, he applied a second coat today. It was the same situation again. When it was wet, it looked good, but now that it’s dry, you can see everything again. For me, the only option left seems to be to wallpaper everything again. Or am I being too critical about the seams? I only know it as something where you don’t see anything or hardly anything, and that’s how I wanted it.

Good luck, Katrin

Try taking a photo from a distance of 2m (6.5 feet).

Did you agree that the seams should not be visible at all? Or did you just assume ("I only know it that way") that they wouldn’t be noticeable?

To assess this properly, you would definitely need to upload more photos here. However, I don’t find slightly visible seams that unusual. It can certainly be done better, but due to common practice, perfect workmanship is rarely achieved. It always depends on what can typically be expected unless specific agreements have been made.

Hello Katrin,
Properly done = a clear no.
Please request a correction of defects and do not accept this work as is.
