ᐅ Height difference / Level between tile and wood flooring

Hello,
the parquet flooring was installed in our house at the end of last week.
It was planned for the screed to be lower than in the adjacent rooms (kitchen and hallway).
We do NOT have any "extra-thin" parquet, which apparently exists for cases without a lowered screed.

Nevertheless, the parquet is now about 1.2 cm (0.5 inches) lower than the adjacent floor level. Our site manager and the flooring installer say this is "normal" and therefore not a defect. They claim there are no specific guidelines or standard measurements.
We find this very disturbing because such a large difference cannot simply be adjusted by "overlaying" the floor.

Online, I only found one reference in regulations for public areas regarding this issue.
They consider a difference from 4 mm (0.16 inches) upwards as a tripping hazard.

Could anyone tell me if it is possible to apply these kinds of standards or recommendations to private homes in any way?

Raising the floor level is unfortunately not an option because it would significantly affect the function of the underfloor heating.

Best regards,
Hilaria

We discussed this in advance with the screed contractor. Once he knew that we wanted different floor coverings (tiles and parquet), the screed was installed at different heights in the respective rooms.

In the finished state, everything is now at the same level.

Hello,

In our case as well, the screed thicknesses were adjusted so that all finished floor coverings are level.

We also have hardwood flooring and tiles on the same level. The hardwood is 15mm (0.6 inches) thick plus adhesive, and the tiles are 10mm (0.4 inches) plus adhesive. For this, there are rails that are installed on top.

I don’t understand what is meant by the rails. In other cases, the screed thickness was simply adjusted.

However you want to adjust screed thicknesses in the millimeter range.

What exactly should I explain to you now? You already know it anyway...

Of course, that’s possible. See my post further above.

In our case, the tiles and parquet flooring are exactly level with each other because the screed was applied at different heights.

The tiles including adhesive are about 12mm (0.5 inches) thick, and the parquet including adhesive is about 17mm (0.7 inches) thick. That’s why the screed was poured with a 5mm (0.2 inches) height difference.

In areas where variations of 3-5mm (0.1-0.2 inches) occur, tolerances are common – no screed installer can guarantee otherwise. With luxury vinyl flooring and tiles, it’s a different situation, as there is a more noticeable height difference that can be managed.

Floor layers can achieve a level surface afterwards if they are aware of this. I don’t see any issue in our case because the parquet is glued down very thinly, and the tiles are applied slightly thicker – resulting in at most a 1-2mm (0.04-0.08 inches) edge, which is covered by a transition strip anyway.
