ᐅ Height adjustment between tiles and laminate flooring

Hello,

We have tiles and laminate flooring installed on our ground floor. Unfortunately, no appropriate transition profiles were used at the time. This has become increasingly bothersome. The height difference is about 9mm (0.35 inches). Drilling is not an option because there is underfloor heating installed.

I am considering a profile that could be glued onto both types of flooring. The hardware store couldn’t really help me, and I didn’t find much through online searches either.

Can anyone offer advice or assistance?

Best regards

Thank you for your response, but then it is not traditional laminate flooring, but rather vinyl flooring.

How about using a type of wedge strip like the one shown in the attachment (it’s probably available in other colors as well)? You could use that to even out the height difference. Whether it actually looks good, I can’t say. However, I would probably find an edge like yours, where you keep stubbing your feet, quite annoying. Or maybe a kind of curved profile that you stick over the edge?! It might not be very attractive, but it could be worth trying.

I would glue a quarter-round profile made of black PVC with a height of 8mm (0.3 inches). Simply saw off the “overhang” beforehand.

Laminate floating? Just place impact sound insulation mats underneath up to the height of the tiles. Otherwise, I would install a small transition strip.

It can’t stay as it is. That’s actually dangerous! (Toe hurts)

What happened with all that? I’d be interested to know. We have a similar spot between our kitchen and dining area. We also tried impact sound insulation there. It’s not perfect though, because you can feel that you step up slightly by about 1–1.5m (3–5 feet).
