Hello, after about three quarters of a year, I finally received the offer for a maintenance contract for our heating system. It is an air-to-water heat pump. What is the general opinion in this forum regarding an annual maintenance contract, and what is the usual cost and what services should be included? The offer is now from the company that installed the heating system on behalf of the general contractor. Are there also options to inquire directly with the manufacturer?

Thank you and best regards

In this region, plumbers are so fully booked that without a maintenance contract, you virtually have no chance of getting one to come out for urgent problems. Whether they do anything during regular maintenance almost doesn’t matter anymore.

I am always amused that people make such a big deal and spend a lot of money on insulation and an extremely efficient modulating heat pump, just to reduce the variable heating electricity costs from 600 to 400 euros per year. Then, some cheeky heating technician comes along and charges 400 euros per year for a completely pointless maintenance. At some point, a maintenance-free direct electric heating system would actually be cheaper when considering the total costs...

A heat pump requires very little maintenance. I’ll have the heating technician take a look at the outdoor unit when he’s here for the water softener system. Nothing will be done, nothing replaced. Absolutely nothing. Just a visual inspection. Signing a maintenance contract for that? It’s possible, but not necessary.

Unfortunately, this is often close to the truth. It’s also important to remember that the government subsidy for heat pumps, which was available until last year, required a maintenance contract as a mandatory condition.

That’s correct, we were also required to sign a contract and provide proof of this to BAFA. However, the price was quite reasonable:

Contract terms: automatic annual renewal; maintenance 95 EUR/year

I still don’t know what to do 🙂
This is already annoying. Everything has its pros and cons.
I just don’t want to be sitting in the cold during winter if the system fails… But how often does that actually happen?!?!
