Hello,

a challenging starting point:

  • Reinforced concrete walls with a height of 4.5 meters (15 feet)
  • Vapor barrier, 15 cm (6 inches) Rockwool insulation, 12.5 mm (0.5 inches) gypsum board

The room is also quite large, with a floor area of 60 m² (645 sq ft), measuring 6 by 10 meters (20 by 33 feet) and a ceiling height of 5 meters (16.5 feet).

My concerns are whether underfloor heating and a single gas fireplace with 8 kW of heating output will be sufficient.

Additionally, I am worried about humidity. I could install two fans with a diameter of 12 cm (5 inches) and set timers to operate, for example, overnight.

But... will all of this really help? Is it even possible to heat such a space effectively?

It all depends on the design (especially regarding the underfloor heating). How is the access? Is there a pressure-tight blast door or what kind of construction is installed?

Are there any windows or fresh air supply?

Try searching for “Bunkersiedlung Kevelaer.” It’s an entire residential area built in former ammunition bunkers.

All entrances are standard doors... The room has a huge window, about 5 x 5 meters (16 x 16 feet), a bomber could seriously have flown right through it.

Tell me more, I find the project really fascinating. Where is it? Why?

There was a family on TV who converted a bunker into a residential house, maybe you can find a contact from that somewhere?!

As mentioned above, there is a whole settlement (20 or 30? bunkers) in Kevalar.
