I recently noticed that there are now heating systems that can burn both pellets and regular firewood. I think that's pretty clever since I live in a rural area and can partly produce the wood myself.
Does anyone have such a heating system at home and can tell me if it’s really effective? Can you burn large logs with it, or does the wood have to be chopped very small?

MODERATOR2 Nov 2012 16:55A firewood-pellet combination boiler is a system that combines a firewood boiler with an integrated pellet burner. Functionally, it operates by automatically switching from firewood to pellet combustion once the firewood has been burned. This means the combination boiler automatically continues operation by transitioning from firewood to pellets.
You do not need to chop the firewood into very small pieces; logs can be used just as you would for a fireplace.
