We need some additional support here. So far, the heating system has always been planned for the basement.

1. Indoor installation, in the utility room, enclosed with a proper door. Behind it, about 2 meters (6.5 feet) away and behind the apartment entrance door, there is a separate flat. According to the technician, the heating system is not audible inside the flat.

2. Outdoor installation, which we could possibly discreetly place under the entrance stairs. However, we are concerned about the noise. On one hand, because we spend a lot of time in front of the house ourselves, and on the other hand, there is our northern neighbor who has a terrace about 10 meters (33 feet) away.

Additionally, the indoor option costs around 3,000 euros more.

What would you do? Fully enclosed inside the house or outdoor installation?

Thank you.

Basically, I consider an outdoor installation to be easier (no light wells) and more cost-effective (no loss of living space). However, even new systems can produce noticeable noise. It might not be loud, but it can still be disturbing if you have a terrace or balcony on the same side of the house. Therefore, I would recommend placing it on the "utility side" of the house (in our case, cars, bicycles, and garbage bins are located there, and the road runs along that side) rather than on the "sunny side."

I also find the distance to the neighbor critical. Even if they are not sensitive to noise, depending on the orientation, the airflow from our system can be felt at more than 10 meters (33 feet) away. So, it is advisable to check in advance the direction in which the heat pump blows air. In many cases, the airflow is guided by deflection plates and doesn’t come straight out of the unit.

Hi,

I have shared my opinion on split systems many times before, so I would clearly recommend an indoor unit. Neighbors have one and said that maintenance is also cheaper, but I’m not sure if that is true.

Best regards,

Andreas

A clear no.
