Hey,

is it possible for a heat pump to heat up the screed without an outdoor unit? Basically, just using the electric heating element, or do the indoor and outdoor units always have to work together? The background is whether heating up with the outdoor unit would be less expensive despite the extra cost.

Yes, once the heat pump is fully operational with the outdoor unit, it is significantly more cost-effective. Without the outdoor unit, you can only heat using the electric heating element.

We heated 210 sq meters (2257 sq feet) of screed in April 2019 using an external unit and construction power supply. We had to pay an additional €1300; previously, we had paid monthly installments of €65 for 10 months.

@Zaba12

So, the €65 (approximately $70) advance payment is higher, but in the end, you still have to pay an additional €1300 (approximately $1390). Basically, €1950 (approximately $2080) for construction power/heating phase?

Hi,

1300 was probably not just for the heating up. But with April temperatures, it could well be.

We heated 340 sq meters (3,660 sq ft) in August and September 2017 using an electric heater with 3400 kWh. That’s about 10 kWh per sq meter (0.9 kWh per sq ft). The cost was 850€.
