I am trying to find people who have actually had underfloor heating retrofitted by milling the floor themselves. I would like to know if they are satisfied with it or if they even regret it.

If possible, please only share your experiences and avoid discussing the usefulness of such a project or alternatives.

Thank you.

Hello forum,

retrofitting a large number of grooves for installing heating loops by milling into the existing screed is, in most cases, not feasible because the screed becomes significantly weakened and will likely suffer damage or break due to use. Subsequent floor coverings are usually damaged as well.

It is definitely more sensible to remove the old floor and create a homogeneous construction:

1. The new floor remains undamaged. No warranty will cover milled floors.
2. The costs for milling are extremely high and difficult to estimate accurately.
3. I know many milling companies, but none that can do this efficiently.

Best regards

So, I requested a quote before the renovation.
The company received the floor plans and provided me with a detailed offer. For a total of 140 sqm (1,507 sq ft), it was approximately €6,500 gross, including pipes, manifold, and so on.
On-site work included disposal of dust, connection to the heating system, and chipping work. Of course, the pipes also had to be embedded in mortar.

I don’t find that very expensive. I declined due to the schedule. There was an eight-week lead time, which unfortunately I didn’t have.
