Hello everyone,
I am currently planning to use several IKEA KALLAX shelves side by side as a room divider in my open living area. My question is: Has anyone had experience placing multiple KALLAX units directly next to each other, rather than individually, to create a longer partition? I am particularly interested in how stable the overall construction is, whether they can be easily connected, and if it is possible or advisable to use additional fastenings to prevent shifting.
I would also like to know how this looks visually—does it create a clean, continuous room divider, or do the individual shelves appear more like separate units?
I appreciate any advice, tips, or experience you can share!

How about also planning for certain compartments to be used as storage space?Clearly, the shelf already serves as storage. However, I would make sure it is securely fixed, especially if you plan to store binders or heavy items.

It is important to keep them visually consistent, for example by using boxes or shelves in the same color. Connect them either with screws or special furniture connectors. Don’t forget to secure them to the wall.
Hello jufra37,
I would like to point out again that when using KALLAX as a room divider with multiple units, the type of floor covering also plays a role. On uneven floors, achieving a completely flush and stable setup can be difficult, which increases the risk of the units slipping or wobbling. It is worth correcting floor irregularities before assembly with a small level adjustment or retrofitting the shelves with adjustable feet.
If you have children, also make sure to secure the upper corners of the shelves to prevent injuries, as these can quickly become hazardous spots.
I’m happy to help if you have further questions regarding materials, connections, or safety.

I can confirm that. When using KALLAX shelves side by side as room dividers, I especially recommend the following approach...Thanks to everyone for the helpful tips! To sum up, I will connect the shelves with brackets, secure them to the wall, ensure they are placed on a level surface, and attach corner protectors on top. I also liked the idea of uniform decoration and additional storage space.
I will report back on how it goes once I have completed the assembly. If anyone else has experience with longer rows of KALLAX shelves, I’d appreciate any further advice!
