ᐅ Lowering the ceiling due to an oversized window lintel?

Hello everyone, I hope you can help me with my design dilemma. We built our house 5 years ago. Unfortunately, I overlooked that the windows (with roller shutters) are not large enough when reviewing the plans. The ceiling height with the finished floor is 2.56m (8 ft 5 in). We have a wall height of 47cm (18.5 inches) above the windows. I am very unhappy with this. Option 1: Lower the ceiling. Option 2: Remove all windows, install a new lintel, and enlarge the windows.

Do you have any other solutions for my problem? The room symmetry just doesn’t feel right to me.

Many thanks
Jasmin

Alright, that’s not the quick solution then!
You mentioned paint earlier. Do you have any ideas for me?

I’m not a design expert, unfortunately. I usually paint colored walls with a white stripe along the top edge (just like the ceiling). This makes rooms appear taller, for example.
I can only recommend searching online for the effects of colors in rooms or contacting a painter.
Just quickly found some results on the web (there are many sites out there).
Maybe you could also work with vertical or horizontal stripes or areas.
That would be my first choice, as it’s easier to do and much cheaper.

I also read something like this. It could be an option.

Note: Paint the ceiling and upper wall area about 10cm (5 inches) darker; this makes the ceiling appear lower.

I would not install the curtain rods on the ceiling, but above the windows. Then attach valances that extend over the top edge of the windows.

Many thanks, at least a temporary solution is needed for the next few years.
I can only advise everyone to look very carefully!!!
Sooner or later, we will have the windows modified.
I also considered curtain rods... but I will not use a valance, as it does not match the rest of the interior!

I don’t see anything dramatic here… but I find the curtains to be very poorly placed… A white strip running around just below the ceiling and the curtains arranged differently would make a big difference…
