ᐅ Should the hallway and the living/dining area have the same flooring?

Good evening,

We are currently planning the flooring for our living/dining area and are wondering whether it looks better if the hallway and living/dining area have the same flooring, or if it is more attractive to have two different types of flooring. I imagine it looks more harmonious with the same flooring‍♀️ The tiles for the hallway are included in the price, but we would like vinyl for the living/dining area.

What kind of floor plan do you have? I would always recommend tiles in the kitchen and wood flooring in the living room and dining area. In our case, the dining area is located next to the kitchen, so we also chose tiles there. We installed Jura marble in gray, which is a common choice in our region.

It is often said that tiles in the kitchen are easier to maintain than wood. This may be true if you don’t clean up after spills. But who would leave a puddle of water or a blob of puree on the tiles just because they are supposedly low-maintenance? The argument in favor of tiles is somewhat questionable.

Except for the annual upkeep: wood occasionally needs to be oiled or wiped with a special product. In this regard, tiles are indeed easier to care for.

Uh, well, with us it can also take a long time to clean off stains...
And that's exactly why we definitely won't have any hardwood floors.
It's probably because we're the only ones without hardwood flooring in the new housing development 🙄

Depending on the type of tile and the mess on the floor, it can actually be worse than with hardwood flooring...

Do you have children?

Or (young) dogs? Some stains or puddles are only noticed one or two hours later. By then, the hardwood floor has already swollen significantly...
