Hello everyone,

we are currently deciding which plaster to use on and inside our house.

One open question is still the exterior and interior plaster.

As is well known, there are different options available in various price ranges.

I am aware of the advantages and disadvantages of gypsum plaster and lime-(cement) plaster. However, it is difficult to estimate whether it might be possible to save some money by choosing gypsum plaster.

What type of plaster do you use and why?

Thank you very much for your opinions 🙂

Best regards

We are currently replastering one room after another in an older building and are using lime-cement plaster for this. In the bathroom, we initially used gypsum plaster because it is supposedly easier for beginners. However, I don’t quite agree with that; in my experience, both can be used equally well. The gypsum plaster in our bathroom has been working perfectly for three years, but we have a small bathroom with a large window, and we ventilate and heat it well.

I chose lime-cement plaster because it is more impact-resistant and is supposed to be less prone to mold. I can confirm the first point, but I don’t know about the second, since we don’t have any mold anywhere in the house. We will gradually use it throughout the rest of the house. I have also successfully used it on the shed base, meaning outdoors. For a new build, I would probably choose lime-cement plaster as well, as I think it is a higher quality product—stronger and mold-resistant. Only if the budget is tight would I consider saving on this, because plaster is not easy to replace and should last for many decades.

In the basement only, we use renovation plaster, but that’s also an older building.
