Hello everyone,

I am 100% sure that there is a post in this forum saying that shower fittings with a thermostat should be used regularly. Unfortunately, I can’t find that post anymore, and I don’t know how the thread continued. So my question is: Is that correct? Can the thermostatic valve be damaged if it is not used for several weeks?

Edit:
A small additional question: When installing the pipes for the fitting (in my case, a surface-mounted fitting in the guest shower), is there anything specific to consider if a thermostatic valve is going to be used?

Thanks in advance for the help

No, the thermostat valve does not suffer from lack of use.
The pipes are installed as usual — hot and cold. The thermostat in the mixer then regulates the flow. There are different installation widths, so I would choose the valve in advance.

I would especially make sure that no branch line leads to the thermostat, but that it is installed on flow plates. If a frequently used appliance is connected afterwards, this prevents stagnation during infrequent use.

Otherwise, thermostats can cause issues with (hydraulic) instantaneous water heaters, as they can affect each other’s settings.
