Hello, in our recently purchased house, the tap water tastes musty/chlorine-like! I started investigating the cause and it seems to be due to the Grünbeck water softener system. As soon as water from the softener is mixed in, the water no longer tastes normal! I have read in various forums that this problem occurs quite often with these systems, and I wanted to ask if anyone here has a solution for this issue? I tried temporarily deactivating the chlorine cell, as I read this might help, but it didn’t solve the problem. Tomorrow, I plan to disconnect the system, remove the salt, and clean everything! I would also like to disinfect the system if possible. If yes, what should I use? If nothing helps, it will be removed!

We also planned it that way, but so far I haven’t needed to install the tap for regular tap water. I also like the demineralized water. It tastes different but still good. Although, to be honest, I never really liked the “Berliner Rohrperle” taste. It was better elsewhere.

Here in the Bergisches Land region (between Duisburg and Wuppertal), the tap water tastes very good.

We have very hard tap water in our area. The hardness minerals in the water are not harmful to health; actually, it’s quite the opposite. That’s why we don’t buy bottled water and drink only tap water. The coffee machine is descaled every 4 weeks, the dishwasher as well, and the washing machine has been running for 10 years without any descaler. And it’s really no effort.

Same here! Our water hardness is also at the upper end. Coffee does actually taste better with soft water – but that’s taken care of by the separate filter in our fully automatic coffee machine. Otherwise, with proper maintenance, we haven’t had any issues with the dishwasher or washing machine over all these years. Of course, it’s annoying to have to regularly clean the sink area and kettle. Even more annoying, and especially more expensive, would be a water softening system.

This discussion is pointless unless we know the hardness level of your water.

After cleaning the brine tank and adding Resin Clean, the water now smells neutral at least! I will monitor this for the time being. Soon, I plan to have a service done as well!
