Since there are always countless great tips shared in this forum...
We have purchased a house and would like to renovate it ourselves. When planning the layout, we are considering whether our ideas are practical and what we might have overlooked. Therefore, I would appreciate any tips or suggestions for improvement.

Thank you in advance!

What strikes me is… why are you making the kitchen so much smaller? Only a single cooking zone and no real interest in cooking? I assume there will also be a small section of wall left standing.

The oven/dining table area could become cramped, especially since this seems to be the main access to the cooking area — after all, who wants to always go through the pantry? 😉 Are you planning to put a wall right in the middle of the living room, for the TV?

Unfortunately, there are no dimensions shown on the left side of the plan. The bedroom… is there really about 70 cm (27.5 inches) depth behind the door (necessary for a wardrobe unit)? The bathroom also looks very tight. Does the children’s room have to be on this floor? What does the basement offer? Wouldn’t it maybe make sense to arrange sleeping/bath/children’s room and parents’ bedroom with bathroom/small office accordingly? And why remove the guest toilet? Should every visitor have to use your bathroom?

A few words and sentences about the house and about you should definitely be mentioned.

Thanks. So, will the visiting children get the basement?
You don’t want to carry out any energy-efficient renovation? Have you already looked into that? What kind of heating system is installed?
Also no new water and electrical lines?

I wasn’t aware that it would be better to start just one thread.

Well, it is a compact “problem.” Everything is connected, including your door order. If needed, you could move in without doors and wait for a cheaper option with a longer lead time. That would be the least of your worries.
The balcony needs building permit / planning permission.

Regarding the floor plan: what does the basement offer? A cellar-like feel or a nice access to the garden? Maybe the open space with the kitchen would work well there, and the current living room could become the bedroom? Or in the basement you could have an open-plan kitchen and living area, and on the main floor a relaxed parents’ area with a small balcony. That way, the balcony doesn’t have to lead directly to the garden and you could forgo expanding it altogether.

About your ideas: I definitely wouldn’t add an unsightly partition wall in the open space as the room isn’t large enough for that. Put the TV on the stair wall, rotate the sofa, and that’s fine.
With a basement, you don’t really need a separate pantry. I also think the planned kitchen is very small: drop the pantry and plan a nice straight kitchen run. Don’t build too many walls inside that would take away all the character and positives of the house.
It’s important that you have space for a coat rack and cupboard in the hallway. Otherwise, jackets end up on the sofa, staircase railing, or elsewhere.
Guests can use the bathroom downstairs.

To contribute anything here, more information is needed. Do you have the site plan, the basement floor plan, and a cross-section?
Is this a 34 regulation or a development plan / zoning plan?
