Hello dear home builders,
we are in the process of revising our plans. We want to reduce the height of a window and move it slightly lower. Our home builder advised that we should only make changes in 12.5cm (5 inch) increments—both for the window size and the adjustment in position. Does anyone know why this is the case? Are the bricks sized to this measurement so they shouldn’t be cut, or how could this be explained?
Best regards, Thomas

Are the bricks in that sizeAlmost exactly right. The module of one eighth of a meter actually derives from brick dimensions. Modern brick sizes still build on this, but in earlier decades with solid bricks, one brick (including mortar joint) was exactly one "stone" long (25cm (10 inches)) and one "header" wide (12.5cm (5 inches)). In height, it’s a bit less strict, especially since jumbo formats are used nowadays, which essentially combine three traditional layers in one step. Here https://www.hausbau-forum.de/threads/spalten-in-poroton-rohbau-wand-durch-maurer.39643/ you can see how a wall looks when the planner doesn’t care about the correct module.

I have made the planning available to you here:The fact that the "relationships" of the dimension chains cannot be understood there—because there are almost no measurements—leads me to an important postscript: applying the one-eighth meter grid to the openings is only "half the solution"—only when applied also to the wall sections does it really make sense.https://www.instagram.com/11antgmxde/
