Hello everyone!
The paving work is coming up.
Besides the big problem of finding an affordable paver, I would like to ask for your opinions on gravel strips.
In the residential area, it’s about evenly split whether a gravel strip is installed around the house during paving or not.
It doesn’t seem to matter whether the houses have brick veneer or are rendered.
Some even skip the drainage membrane.
Could I please hear your opinions and experiences?

They also come in natural stone, which looks quite nice, at least to my taste. We have the curbs in dark gray granite.
We chose granite gravel in 40-60mm (1.5-2.4 inches). It can be cleaned easily with a pressure washer.
Edit: By the way, we ultimately ordered it much cheaper from Raiffeisen Building Materials compared to the home improvement store price.Do you have a picture of the gravel?D

Who here has dealt with the woman who prefers “expensive gravel”? [emoji6]
I’m currently looking for decorative gravel as well. Haven’t found anything quite right yet.
I would like round gravel in a gray-anthracite color with a minimum size of 1.5cm (0.6 inches).I would be interested in this too.

Knallkörper22 Nov 2017 14:35The gravel is granite, sized 40-60 mm (1.5-2.5 inches). I finally got the gravel at the building materials store for 120 euros per ton.
Hmm, it seems like the opinion here is mostly in favor of gravel... but somehow I don’t see the point of adding a layer of gravel around a brick house where the driveway and path to the front door already run right alongside the house. It’s also the north and east sides.
I find it 1. ugly and 2. it takes up space...
Wouldn’t paving with a slope be enough there?
Especially since we’re building without a basement, the water should be able to drain away somewhere without pooling against a retaining basement wall...

I would at least include a strip on the weather-exposed side.
If the walkway runs right up to the house, raindrops hit the stones and splash the bricks.
