Appel200028 Jun 2021 18:17Hello everyone,
For our house (no basement, concrete slab foundation), we are about to build the terrace.
It will have a gravel base, then crushed stone, and finally the surface layer.
Now I’m wondering:
Should I plaster the area of the base wall that will be covered by gravel and crushed stone beforehand?
There is a bituminous coating and insulation already applied. Should I also apply base plaster now?
And then a dimpled membrane?
Or is it enough to just put gravel there and leave it at that?
Attached is a quick "example photo."
Thanks and best regards

HilfeHilfe29 Jun 2021 06:13We had the terrace redone. From what I saw, we had a dimple membrane or skirt, as it is called, around the base.
Is gravel still used today? A few days ago, we were told that this type of terrace paving has been replaced by a kind of pedestal system. Four slabs rest on a pedestal at the intersection point.

Those pedestals are called adjustable supports.
Nice solution, but you need a sufficiently level, concrete base for that (at least I don't know any other way). We don’t have that, so we are using the traditional method.

Thick coating, then base plaster, dimpled membrane, followed by lightweight concrete, and ideally drainage in front or a Birkorinne. We are doing it similarly now.
An acquaintance who has been a site manager at a concrete house builder for years would do it "for himself" as follows:
Glue the missing Styrofoam insulation,
then base plaster/reinforcing mortar with reinforcement (because plaster on Styrofoam),
then waterproof slurry and in front of that the dimpled membrane.
This should cover everything.
