Hello

I want to cover my climate-controlled cellar (about 20m² (215 sq ft)) with granite tiles (30.5 x 30.5 x 1cm (12 x 12 x 0.4 inches)).
The slab = concrete floor is relatively level. Maximum unevenness is 5mm (0.2 inches).
Can I glue the tiles directly onto the concrete using flexible adhesive, or do I definitely need to use a leveling compound? I want to avoid the cost of leveling compound if it’s not absolutely necessary.
What do the experts say?

Well, I’m no expert, but I would call that a “bumpy ride” 😉

It’s manageable. Our staircase situation was similar. Flexible adhesives can be applied up to 30mm (1.2 inches) depending on the type. That should be sufficient.

What about rising damp through the concrete slab (capillary action)?

Hello bluminger

Under the slab, I installed a full-surface dimple membrane. The slab is 30 cm (12 inches) thick waterproof concrete. There should be little to no moisture rising.

But honestly: you want to install extremely expensive tiles, yet you're hesitant about applying leveling compound. Why?
