Hi everyone,

We’re trying to figure out the best way to install our bedroom cabinets under the sloped ceiling.

On both sides of the dormer, there is room for a tall wardrobe for each of us. Built-in wardrobes are not an option for now, as they would cost between 6,000 and 8,000 € (approximately $6,400 to $8,500). They are probably worth that much, but it exceeds our budget.

With Ikea Platsa, we could make the most of the space. However, we don’t find the quality particularly great – plus, it lacks the wide range of interior fittings like the Pax system.

Pax would also be possible. However, we would need to shorten the carcasses and doors to fit the space under the slope. We’re not sure how well that would work. Has anyone had experience with this?

Otherwise, online wardrobe planners are also very expensive, so that’s out.

Does anyone have alternative suggestions?

You have space available to the right and left according to the plan.

I would suggest placing PAX carcasses with contents there, cutting them to size as needed, and then installing vertical blinds in front. This would be done in two sections: one for the straight part and one for the section with the sloped ceiling.
So, approximately 150 cm (60 inches) PAX at standard height, then about 100 to 150 cm (40 to 60 inches) PAX gradually shortened, and towards the end maybe just shelves or open space for suitcases, etc.
The niche is simply planned to be 70 cm (28 inches) deep, allowing a vertical blind to run comfortably in front.

The sloped section, for example (not more expensive than PAX doors either):

Have you ever planned a closet on sites like meinschrank or similar? Built-in wardrobes aren’t that expensive. I especially like meinemöbelmanufaktur because you can also see a 3D view there.
I’m also curious if it’s possible to shorten a Pax wardrobe. Will the door still look good then?

Do you like PAX? It’s very easy to cut and adapt to sloping ceilings. The carcasses are made of cardboard inside, but it still works well. Use a good circular saw with a long guide rail and an angle. I would just avoid shortening the mirrored door.

Pax can be easily cut and adjusted to fit sloped ceilings. We also had it in our previous rental apartment (attic).

If you’re unsure, I would recommend buying just an empty carcass first, cutting it to size, and seeing how you manage with it and whether you like the result.

We have Ivar: with a bit of tinkering, the dimensions fit very well. Under the sloped ceiling, there is more storage space for boxes and trays. The Malm drawers are integrated. Everything was painted white in advance and can always be changed if necessary. Curtains could also be added in front, or something similar. For us, it is left bare in a cupboard.

I admit: I would still prefer proper cabinets, but they are quite costly – other priorities come first.
