I am currently deciding which insulation material to use for the attic conversion. From an ecological point of view, hemp fibers appeal to me, but I have read that fiberglass insulation is more effective. On the other hand, the manufacturer of the hemp fibers claims that their product provides better protection against heat in summer.

The fiberglass has a thermal conductivity value (WLG) of 32, while the hemp fibers have a WLG of only 40.

My main concern is heat protection, and I would be willing to accept some compromises in insulation performance for that. But is it really true that hemp fibers offer better heat protection?

Hemp fibers are heavier than mineral fibers, which means they retain (relatively) more heat that is transferred more slowly to the interior during summer. The same applies to wood fiber insulation materials.

Ah, so hemp fibers really do provide better heat insulation. It is very important to me that the space under the roof does not get so unbearably hot in the summer, so I will choose hemp fibers. Thanks for the information 🙂

In addition to the hemp fibers, a roof sheathing made of wood fiber insulation is also recommended (also for summer thermal protection); it is available with hydrophobic treatment, allowing the construction site to withstand a few rainy days with an uncovered roof.
