This question has probably been asked many times before, but I just have to ask again:

What do you think about geothermal heating? Has anyone built with this system? Pros and cons? How do you all heat your homes?

Best regards!

Hello Beitrag,

Thank you for the note.

This is exactly the technology we have chosen. In addition, there will be a central controlled ventilation system with heat recovery and a small soapstone stove in the house.

We have prepared the connection for an energy storage system – however, we are waiting for more efficient and affordable batteries.

Best regards,

Dirk

Hello Dirk,

I’m not sure how you define “more affordable” batteries, but I believe they are already available on the market. I can gladly provide you with contact information.

I had my post deleted because I overlooked that you are already using an air-to-water heat pump, sorry – I only saw “gas” and thought I would chime in on that.

Best regards

Hello Beitrag,

no problem.

I would really appreciate contact details – maybe we can start off on the right foot from the beginning...

Best regards,

I have concerns that once the ground source heat pump eventually pays off, it will already need to be replaced again?! We are very uncertain about which heating option to choose. Maybe we should also take a look at the air-to-water heat pump...

There are no reliable data yet on the lifespan of an air-to-water heat pump – I sold the first one about 8 years ago, and it has been running smoothly ever since. Basically, it is nothing more than an air conditioning unit operating on a reversed heating principle. Therefore, the expected service life – assuming proper maintenance and care – should be comparable.

I wonder how large the storage space needs to be for a household of nearly five people... and whether that might be excessive?!
