ᐅ Gas Prices – Where Is Gas Still Affordable?

Good morning,

I just received a steep price increase from my energy provider enercity, raising the cost to 15 cents per kWh starting in August. That’s really tough, and I think prices will rise even further.

It’s a strange feeling to be thrown back so quickly into an energy supply situation where you have to figure out how to keep the house warm. It seems to me that the government has given up on the goal of enabling everyone to adequately cover at least their basic needs.

Goodbye central supply structures; now the winner is whoever has solar panels and a heat pump in their new build, while the others are left out.

Welcome back, coal heating 😕

Frustrated regards,
M

The "few €" will be 250 € from October and probably 300 or 400 € next year.

They are no longer that with gas prices.

Does he have a gas connection and a mandatory gas consumption requirement, or why is it only possible with gas? I am fully aware that all energy prices are currently rising rapidly, but gas in new construction should be the deadest horse to bet on in (future) new builds. Both ecologically and now economically.

Yes, see the last post. While rising interest rates and material costs might have been manageable, they definitely are not anymore with gas prices.

Would he have installed a gas heating system instead of a heat pump plus a photovoltaic system? Or geothermal energy?

He currently has a gas heating system. It’s not worth converting the old house either.
The original plan was to keep it in the new build (which will be on the same plot).
Until a few months ago, it was still the cheapest heating option.
Now new planning is required to see what alternatives are possible. Solar panels and heat pumps do increase the construction costs significantly as well.

Photovoltaics are optional, and a heat pump is more expensive, but not to the extent that your story could seriously hold weight ;-)

Anyone planning to use gas in new construction has really missed the boat over the past 10 years.

I’m afraid, dear Sum sum biene, that your current costs for gas and electricity will at least double within a year. If you are paying 380 euros now, it will likely rise to 800 euros, and possibly even more. I would prepare for around 1000 euros per month. Or start saving now.

Or maybe consider taking active resistance. You could visit the constituency office of the SPD or the Greens and talk to them. As Habeck said, this will cause severe financial hardship for many people.

Now we have a 100m² (1076 sq ft) house and pay €245 per month at 16 cents/kWh. Plus another €120 for electricity.

What do you do with all that gas and electricity?
How many kWh does €120 correspond to for you? For us, that would be about 4900. 😳
