ᐅ Gas Prices – Where Is Gas Still Affordable?

Good morning,

I just received a steep price increase from my energy provider enercity, raising the cost to 15 cents per kWh starting in August. That’s really tough, and I think prices will rise even further.

It’s a strange feeling to be thrown back so quickly into an energy supply situation where you have to figure out how to keep the house warm. It seems to me that the government has given up on the goal of enabling everyone to adequately cover at least their basic needs.

Goodbye central supply structures; now the winner is whoever has solar panels and a heat pump in their new build, while the others are left out.

Welcome back, coal heating 😕

Frustrated regards,

I don’t really want to beat the same drum, but unfortunately, in my opinion, there are quite a few poorly qualified people represented in the traffic light coalition. Unfortunately, the communication sometimes suggests that they neither understand their responsibilities nor their roles properly.
Apart from that, I actually think very highly of Habek, as he communicates openly and uses clear language. I also don’t consider Baerbock worse than various predecessors. Unfortunately, this does not apply to the entire coalition.

Unfortunately, society has already been transformed accordingly in Merkel’s country. Experts with proven expertise who did not strictly adhere to the party line were ruthlessly eliminated and replaced by yes-men.

This entire process has then spread into all areas of society, even into forums like this one.

I was able to observe this firsthand at my employer. Inexperienced amateurs were promoted to positions, while true professionals were excluded. It was of no use.

Critics are silenced, reason is replaced by nonsense. This is most clearly seen here.

Habeck and Baerbock are deceiving the German people. In October 2021, long before the Russian invasion, Nord Stream II was canceled by Baerbock. Germany immediately broke the contracts after the change of government. Everyone had warned against this beforehand. Nevertheless, Nord Stream II was not put into operation under pressure from the USA. It was not Russia that breached the contracts, but Germany.

Now Habeck is desperately trying to blame the Russians. Why? Yesterday, Lavrov once again offered to supply sufficient gas through Nord Stream II. The deliveries through the Transalpine pipeline were also significantly increased, especially for Eastern Europeans.

The only party responsible for this crisis is the German “traffic light” coalition government. No one else.

And for eight years, nobody was bothered by the bombing of the Russian-speaking population within Ukraine, in the Donbass, by the Ukrainian military. Thousands of people were killed while the world stood by silently. The West was hardly uninvolved in these massacres either.

The outcry that renewable energy is unnecessary completely ignores climate change. Don’t you believe in it?

What exactly am I supposed to believe? Is climate change a religion or a phenomenon that can be explained scientifically?
You actually highlight our real problem very clearly: "Belief in climate change" has become the new green state religion. And just like in the Middle Ages, modern indulgence merchants are making a fortune from it.
They only had to rename Purgatory to "global warming" or something similar. It’s a pity—I had hoped we would have progressed further in our cultural development...

Me too, even though I am probably only indirectly affected. Very difficult social times are coming our way – unfortunately. Nevertheless, I firmly believe that with significant efforts, we can mitigate this. We need to act NOW, and comprehensively. That means: immediate speed limits, reducing meat consumption (by what means?), increasing renewable energy as much as possible, and implementing all possible measures. Preferably all at the same time. And of course, the actions of every individual are also important.

First, we need to extend the operation of nuclear power plants so that we don’t have to continue generating electricity from gas. The reality is that without gas power generation, the expansion of renewables will also have to be substantially scaled back.... Otherwise, there will simply be blackouts or a major economic collapse. By then, the smarter ones among the Greens will have disappeared, and the rest could be unpleasantly surprised.
Otherwise, I would be interested to know what the previous speaker is doing personally to balance out their own biologically-based CO2 emissions to net zero during their lifetime?

"We have a gas crisis, but not an electricity crisis." Either he really does not know any better, in which case he is underqualified for his position and should return to writing children’s books, or he deliberately misled people, which does not make it any better. Actually, it is even worse...

We are currently relying heavily on gas because half of the great nuclear power plants in France are offline.
