ᐅ Gas Prices – Where Is Gas Still Affordable?

Good morning,

I just received a steep price increase from my energy provider enercity, raising the cost to 15 cents per kWh starting in August. That’s really tough, and I think prices will rise even further.

It’s a strange feeling to be thrown back so quickly into an energy supply situation where you have to figure out how to keep the house warm. It seems to me that the government has given up on the goal of enabling everyone to adequately cover at least their basic needs.

Goodbye central supply structures; now the winner is whoever has solar panels and a heat pump in their new build, while the others are left out.

Welcome back, coal heating 😕

Frustrated regards,

What about fast-growing plants like bamboo? Could that be an option? Or do they capture less CO2 and also have too low a calorific value? There are species that grow 20cm (8 inches) per day, and if they could be processed into good pellets...
Surface area!

Bamboo is hollow, and the energy density per area of a bamboo grove compared to a tree forest is significantly lower.

But since we are in a building forum: bamboo is an excellent building material (*just wanted to say that too*)

The question is NOT unresolved.
Hello Deliverer

I admit that the Greens currently seem unstoppable, enjoying incredible support and pushing forward with their radical ideas. I firmly believe that after a cold winter at home, unaffordable energy prices, and very expensive groceries, Germans will eventually wake up. Germans are a strange people; they tend to follow their seducers willingly (see the Austrian example).
I will be in Vietnam for about five to six weeks in January. My house won’t cool down completely there, but if it does, so be it.
I heat with geothermal energy (it was a bureaucratic nightmare to get approval for this), and I also have a tiled stove.
But what about all the people who depend on gas heating? Those who can’t just throw a few cubic meters of wood into a stove? And that is the majority.
What about all the people who are on the verge of financial ruin because they can no longer afford the additional payments?
I still own a nice apartment in Duisburg, which I inherited along with the tenants. The rent is rather low for the location but could easily be doubled with a new lease. Since the tenants live very frugally, they will likely struggle to pay the utility costs. (This time, a payment deferral helped just barely.) But since I’m not a philanthropist and like to receive the money, I’m considering evicting the tenants if payments fall behind.
I fear the Greens are driving Germany into the ground, and then no one will want to take responsibility.
How does it feel to be in a party that was primarily founded to legalize sex with young children and that elevated some of the worst founding members to high positions (keyword city Indians – Cohn-Bendit)?

Well, I’m done here. It’s pointless.

And that was the one asking for arguments *rolleyes*

Well, yesterday I had to listen to lectures about aliens, entities, chlorine dioxide, and hexagonal water. I think @Steven is a true believer like my roommate.

P.S. But wasn’t it the Catholic Church that was responsible for the children – or am I mixing that up? (Sorry, I couldn’t resist.)

Regarding a study on this topic published last week.

I mentioned the alternative to the OP a few pages earlier.
That’s why I said it is available on short notice. If there are no more gas deliveries, these systems will also lack electricity.

Oh, everyone is just waking up now. Australia (the coal nation) has decided to phase out coal after losing entire regions to flooding several times a year.
The oil-producing countries are heavily investing in hydrogen, while the USA and China are expanding renewable energy as if there’s no tomorrow (perhaps because there really isn’t one...).

But anyway: let’s just be at the forefront because these technologies will be in high demand for the next 50 years. Let’s just focus on combating climate change because it will make us rich!

If only that were true. At the moment, things are actually moving strongly in the opposite direction.
Do you know how many people are currently scared? Afraid they won’t be able to buy enough food and, above all, won’t be able to heat their homes anymore.
