Hello everyone,

We are planning a new build with approximately 190 sqm (2,045 sq ft), two stories, without a basement. The attic, about 65 sqm (700 sq ft), will be converted to include a bathroom and a storage room. The house will have a brick veneer exterior and will be built according to the energy-saving regulations. It is for a household of five people (2 adults + 3 children).
A mechanical ventilation system with heat recovery and KNX home automation are planned (if the budget allows, specifically for the KNX).
Once the house is completed, I would like to add solar thermal and photovoltaic systems after a few years.

I’m having trouble deciding between gas heating or a heat pump.

The gas connection costs me €2,500.

Could you help me make this decision?
And which manufacturer would you recommend?

Thanks!!!

Regards

I think it might look similar for us! However, we are still in the middle of the planning phase. We have received the initial quotes and will now evaluate what makes the most sense for our needs.

At the beginning, we were firmly set on using an air-to-water heat pump and did not consider any other options.

After receiving many opinions from acquaintances, who independently all recommended the combination of gas heating + underfloor heating + fireplace + large buffer tank, we have now decided on this setup.

Of course, every solution has its pros and cons. It always depends on personal preference and, naturally, the budget.

Will this achieve KFW 55 standard?

You can't really say that for us, since we are building our house ourselves, or rather, my cousin owns a construction company and is building the house for us.
We also consulted an energy advisor who helped us choose the materials, but I can't say whether we will meet KfW 55 standards or if the supply temperature is better or much worse.
We are building most of it according to the latest standards, and I think the heating system would not jeopardize meeting KfW 55.
Unfortunately, I am not an expert in this area, sorry.

All good.
I read from a solid construction house provider that this combination does not achieve 55. However, I’m not very familiar with this and haven’t really looked into it yet.
But if you consider the conditions (like a low-interest loan, for example), you can currently get almost the same benefits without KfW 55!

Yes, we save a lot of money by building ourselves since we personally know the construction managers, architects, structural engineers, material suppliers, and many of the craftsmen involved. Naturally, we make sure the building meets the latest standards (triple glazed windows and so on). However, we don’t insist that people must strictly follow standards like KfW 55. We prefer to trust the individuals involved.
