Pinkiponk15 Sep 2021 13:32I am not entirely sure if I have chosen the correct subforum and would appreciate any guidance.
We are building a prefabricated house (some of you may already know ;-) ) and would like to have a gas fireplace stove in the living room for ambiance, but it will not be used as a primary heating source, except for the usual heat radiation. The authorized district chimney sweep, whom we contacted based on the house builder’s recommendation, informed us that the flue system (LAS) proposed by the house builder (see attached photos 1 and 2) can be approved by him. However, whether the gas fireplace stove supplier can use the proposed flue system depends on them. (?)
My question to you: Does this mean we have to decide on a specific gas fireplace stove supplier now? We actually wanted to decide on this later when things have settled down a bit.
What experiences do you have / which systems did you use, and how did you proceed? Did you already choose a supplier and/or model before building the house?
I would appreciate it if you could explain this with an example, as I don’t fully understand the whole concept. Aren’t these systems standardized? Or from which “point” are they standardized? Is there some kind of “adapter”… or is there complete chaos in this area? ;-)
Thanks in advance.

What is this LAS? + some symbolsIt is supposed to represent the air-exhaust system for the gas fireplace. However, my question is no longer relevant because we have decided not to install the gas fireplace. My husband and I reconsidered and made some changes. I will provide more details once the planning is finalized in one of my other threads. It is also not forgotten that the cost information will follow as soon as it is confirmed. 🙂Pinkiponk schrieb:
My question has been resolved since we decided to skip the gas fireplace stove. 🙂 That's the right decision! I was already tempted to write, "just leave that stuff out," but I thought you have enough on your plate right now, so I held back. I don’t really understand the obsession with fireplaces in new homes anyway: in cold, drafty, old houses they might be cozy, but in a new build, it feels a bit outdated (even if the new house is yellow with red roof tiles and has shutters 😉 ).

motorradsilke16 Sep 2021 13:46A matter of personal preference. For us, a fireplace means quality of life. It was at the very top of the list of essentials. And definitely not a gas fireplace, but wood-burning. Especially now, during the transitional season when the heating isn’t on yet but the evenings start to get cool and damp, a fire in the stove is simply wonderful.
