ᐅ Garden wall without a concrete foundation?

Hello everyone,

Our plot has a slight slope that we would like to level out with a wall...

The wall will be approximately 12 m (40 feet) long and 20–50 cm (8–20 inches) high.
Is it possible to build this without a concrete footing? Just with crushed stone?

What should I pay attention to? Specific types of stones?
Adhesive?
Moisture barrier?
Drainage membrane?

There is lawn on one side, and the other side is open ground.

Any other tips?

Thanks! Good luck

We just finished building a wall like that ourselves, without a concrete foundation. Two formwork blocks high. Thick layer of crushed stone underneath, compacted.

Hello Steffi33
That is a foundation!
You simply used blocks instead of timber for the formwork.

Hm... the formwork blocks are actually the wall..

They are both. The underground stones serve as the foundation, although I would have made them thicker than the stone row above and waterproofed them.
