I thought a garden chat and photo thread would be a good idea.
This way, we have a space to share current pictures and discuss dandelions and other plants.

Exactly... N for nail. After all, it’s still a construction site...

I don’t fertilize my lawn at all; only a little after reseeding.

We are currently experiencing a severe aphid infestation. Black fruit is already falling from the pear tree. As an initial measure yesterday, we cut out the worst-affected areas (they were already black and slimy) and then sprayed them with a water-neem oil mixture in the evening. We have a similar problem with the sour cherry tree, and I don’t even want to start with the roses and vegetable plants; I treated everything last night and am hoping it will help. I’ve never seen it this bad before—normally, I just ignored the pests.

One part of the lawn is turning into a clover meadow, while the other part is quite patchy because so many thistles are growing. Strange.
They lie side by side, filled with the same soil and sown with the same seed, yet they grow so differently.

Despite multiple scarifications, our lawn is still struggling with water (when it actually rains). It should grow well, and I think fertilizing is allowed in the first year.

Maybe it will rain on Thursday — we’ll see.

I have the aphids under control now. I don’t know how it looks on the apple tree. I’ll only climb up there when it’s time to harvest the apples.
The salad boxes are getting copper tape to keep snails away, and then we’ll see.

@Winniefred you probably can’t spray your garden with soap water made from pure soap. Good advice is hard to find. Heavy rain might help.

A regularly mowed and actively growing lawn consumes a lot of nitrogen. When the soil becomes depleted, low-nutrient plants such as clover, thistles, horsetails, and similar species take advantage of the situation and spread rapidly. I avoid herbicides but do use mineral fertilizer. K.

So both have the same cause. Only on one half there is clover, and on the other thistle.
Fertilizer is being applied.

Honestly, it doesn’t bother me enough to worry about it. I just mow it away. I only have clover in one spot about 2m2 (22 sq ft), where there used to be a tree. And in the area we’re no longer mowing this year, a great mix of wild plants has grown within a few weeks, including thistles and who knows what else – exactly what I want there for the insects.
