I thought a garden chat and photo thread would be a good idea.
This way, we have a space to share current pictures and discuss dandelions and other plants.

Exactly, that’s what I mean. I want fast and strong growth, but definitely not uncontrolled spreading.
I still find the flowering phenomenon fascinating.
Is there actually a summary available showing which variety last flowered when?
60-100 years wouldn’t really matter, but 20 years would be quite annoying. Do the suppliers provide proper information on this? If they even know themselves...

OK, I admit, this isn’t a scientific study on the underground spread of different bamboo species. But at least we learn: root barriers can be overcome. 🙂 Yes, but you can keep an eye on that. I’m not familiar with the video, but we’ve also had a Phyllostachys near our pond for about 15 years (because it’s simply the more attractive bamboo). Naturally, it tries to grow toward the pond. However, the rhizomes reach the top of the smooth liner and you can cut them there.

Slowly things are starting to pick up in the garden... Still, we are about 3-4 weeks behind schedule compared to the last two years.
Because of the constant rain in April and May, our problem child – the maple – has actually made a great start! In the planting year 2019, it unfortunately suffered some drought damage due to the hot summer and transplant stress. Hopefully, that’s behind us now...
There’s still nothing blooming in the perennial bed. The sage should be the first to start in the next few days.
Today is the day for the Chelsea chop. But some plants don’t even have buds yet that I could cut off. So everything will probably be a bit slower this year. The Echinacea (at least 10 different plants) has only 1 (ONE) bud so far. Crazy! Last year I had already pruned dozens at the end of May! It’s me again 😉
How satisfied are you with the Houe wooden table?
How long have you had it and what does the wood look like? Is it placed under a covered area?
We definitely need new garden furniture now, and I just prefer tables with wooden tops much more.
I’m particularly fond of, for example, Houe Circle and Sketch (both bamboo) and also Niehoff Kubu (teak).
The table will stand outside all year round under a covered area and won’t be exposed to rain, except maybe during a storm.
My wife is very skeptical about the durability of such a table...
She’s worried about roughness, cracking, and chipping.
Of course, I’m happy to hear about the experiences of other wooden table owners as well 😉

It has been kept outside permanently for over 12 years and has since developed a beautiful silver-gray color and some patina, as we do not polish it. During this time, it has only been cleaned and oiled three times. It is not rough, has no cracks, and no splinters. The two benches are the same. Good and simple furniture, not from a brand manufacturer but from one of those teak wood furniture stores.

But personally, I really don’t like the sweet smell at all.I love Himalayan balsam! I’m actually thinking about harvesting the bushes around our apartment and sowing them near the house. When I was a kid, my grandma had it growing in her backyard. I’m always happy when I catch that scent.

Contacts like that are worth their weight in gold. 😀We do have the phone number of a great landscape gardener, but he never answers and just writes that he will get back to us “soon.” Only the hacks from the neighborhood could start right away. It’s really tough when you’ve grown up with one-click buying and Prime. Everything takes so long, and online reviews are meaningless when it comes to tradespeople.
